Blinders

Blinders, good for horses, bad for athletes. They are designed to keep the horse focused on what is in front of them, encouraging the horse to pay attention to the race rather than other distractions.

I see so many athletes who are completely blinded from everything all they see is there Heart Rate Monitor or their watch. Being overly focused on what it tells them, they miss the squirrels jumping from tree branch to tree branch. Believe me, you should be watching the squirrels. When you are not looking, they are waiting for the perfect opportunity to drop their acorns from the trees at you.

Seriously though, it is all the other things that make working out fun. Soak in what mother nature has to offer. Skip your scheduled workout and train with someone else to help them out. Let your mind run freely, and train by how you feel. Say "hi" to the couple walking their dog on the trail, don't be that person who just looks straight ahead and doesn't acknowledge anyone. Don't become the person who says to themselves, "I have to workout today, so I can't do..whatever." Don't let your training compromise everything you have loved to do. Rather, find a way to incorporate it better. You don't have to have blinders on to get your workouts done. Your workouts should be for you. You are not there for the workouts. Above all, Be Active Be Happy
